A stack of three closed books. Next to them lies an open notebook and a pen. Title: 15 years of blogging with WordPress.

15 Years of Blogging with WordPress!

Look what I found in my WordPress notifications today!

A circular blue emblem with a W surrounded by a wreath. Below the emblem is a message: Happy anniversary with WordPress.com! You registered on WordPress.com 15 years ago. Thanks for flying with us. Keep up the good blogging.

I did not remember exactly when I switched Notes in the Margin to WordPress, so I was glad of the reminder. The site has been self-hosted on Dreamhost since 1999, and existed elsewhere for a couple of years before that.

Notes in the Margin has been around since long before what it is was called “blogging.” Back in its earliest days, it was just called “having a web site” (yes, before “web site” even became one word). Boy, have things changed in the nearly 25 years I’ve been doing this.

For a while I’ve thought I should write up a history of Notes, but it probably wouldn’t interest anyone except me.

If you’re in the northern hemisphere, I hope you’re staying safe and warm. We’re having an ice storm here in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. But most of the ice should melt away tomorrow, they tell us.
