A green bus with text: "It's Hobbit Day! Hobbiton Movie Set."

Happy Hobbit Day!

Guess what day it is!

It’s September 22nd, Bilbo and Frodo Baggins’ birthdays, which is now celebrated worldwide as Hobbit Day.

Back in 2018, when my husband and I took a trip that included a few days in New Zealand, I hoped we’d get to see the location that Peter Jackson created as the setting for his Lord of the Rings films.

We had lovely weather for our visit to The Shire, and it was truly a magical experience.

A gate at the bottom of several stone steps leading up a hill to the circular door of an entrance to a structure built into the hillside; vegetation covers the top of the hill. Text on a sign on the gate: "No admittance except on party business."
View of a three-windowed structure built into a hillside, covered with vines and grass.
