Map of Washington State, USA

Road Trip!

My husband and I have just returned from a two-week road trip through central and southern Washington State. We retired to Tacoma, WA, on the coast, from St. Louis in 2013. Since then, we’ve slowly (with the two-year hiatus of COVID-19) been exploring other areas of the state.

The more inland parts of the state are much different from the maritime feel of Puget Sound. The biggest difference, by far, is the weather. While we have generally mild summers on the coast, the interior of the state can get HOT:

I try to avoid doing things in the internet that involve logging in because I don’t trust the wide open networks of wi-fi in hotels. Even when I have to use a guest password, I’m still afraid that people are sitting in their hotel rooms with some gadget, just waiting for me to sign in somewhere so they can grab my sign-in credentials. (In fact, on this trip, right after I signed into the hotel network our first night, I got five different emails asking me to confirm my log-in information to an account in some foreign country.)

Therefore, I did not publish any blog posts while we were gone. I read some books and visited a couple of independent book stores, so I have lots to say. Over the next week or so I’ll be publishing backdated posts, which is why you’ll see notifications that may look outdated.

Yes, it does. That’s why it’s the area from which much of the plentiful produce–fruits, vegetable, hops, and wine (oops, grapes)–of the state comes. And we coasters are faced with a true dilemma: If we want to visit the rest of the state, we have to go in summer because, in winter, snow closes the mountain passes. Thanks for reading, Liz!
